Each quarter, SON publishes Ablaze. This publication is our key communication to members, community influencers, and industry insiders about what is happening inside SON. Newsletter volunteers help write, edit, design, print, fold, stuff and send Ablaze. Computer programs that are used in the making of Ablaze include Adobe Photoshop, Adobe InDesign, Microsoft Publisher, and Microsoft Word.
SON’s website is http://www.sonstudios.org. Volunteers help out by writing and editing articles, selecting artwork and videos within SON’s imagery databases, creating and editing widgets, updating existing copy and imagery, and providing fresh ideas for design and content.
SON is active on Twitter (@SONStudiosFL) and Facebook (facebook.com/sonstudios). Social media volunteers stay in communication with SON staff to keep current on the latest happenings. They craft and/or edit social media postings, send them to SON’s point staff person for quick approval, and then post on SON’s social media presences. Volunteers also assist with maintaining communication with responders on social media. Clear guidance is provided to volunteers as to what is brand-specific and acceptable for social media. Adherence to that guidance is strictly enforced.
SON is currently seeking a trustworthy individual skilled in finance and/or accounting to assist with SON clerical tasks. These include recording transactions in the electronic database, creating financial letters, reconciling bank statements, and creating financial reports. This volunteer position is limited to one individual who can serve at least five hours per week in the SON offices.
SON maintains a Content Commission, which serves under the direction of a SON Board member. Content that is pitched to SON is reviewed by the committee, which considers stories based on three clear criteria. If the content meets those criteria, it is passed along to SON’s President & CEO for final decision on whether to bring the project into SON. Materials that are considered include screenplays, manuscripts, pitch decks, book proposals, and video content. Members of this committee should be regular consumers of media (books, movies, or TV shows) themselves and be willing to serve for at least one year.
FUNDRAISING AND DEVELOPMENT COMMITTEE
Fundraising and development committee members assist with the creation and production of fundraising events and initiatives as well as raising community awareness and building relationships. Events include a fundraiser during season, an awareness-building and relationship-building event in the off season, various educational conferences, and the SONday Monday program (which screens films during season at Paragon Pavilion and features special appearances by the filmmakers). The fundraising and development committee is led by a SON Board member. Members of this committee serve for one year, renewable terms.
SON STUDIOS EXECUTIVE PRODUCERS CLUB
SON is currently forming the Executive Producers Club, which will assist in the build of the SON Studios campus under the direction of a SON Board member. Members of this committee should have one or more of the following: substantial business background, real estate knowledge, studio operations experience, non-profit service, community and/or entertainment industry relationships, financial resources. Above all, members of this committee must hold a passion for the power of stories to positively shift culture, and a belief that society urgently needs this power to be used wisely.
